Architecture Design Studio

Architecture caters to one of the basic necessities of human existence. It has to do with planning, designing and constructing forms and spaces that enable humans to comfortably withstand the environment, including climate, geography, socio-political and economic factors. In this semester students are expected to understand both the process and product of planning, designing and construction, keeping in mind functional, technical, social, environmental, and aesthetic considerations. Being responsible agents, architects must be conscious and understand the built form in its cultural and ecological complexities while being capable of creatively manipulating and coordinating materials, technology, light and shadows. Students are expected to communicate design proposals effectively using drawings and in some cases multimedia.

For your studio assignments:
  • Observe, recognize and define problems
  • Investigate the evolution, structure, form and character of built spaces and places
  • Develop purposeful and visionary concepts, designs, plans etc
  • Propose solutions instead of creating more problems
  • Respect cultural differences and diversity
  • Keep abreast with current trends in construction and design
  • Present design proposals and information in clear, convincing and innovative ways
Note: The final grade is only 40% of a project, 60% includes your attentiveness in class; site visits; desk crits and pinups; you will be graded on your communication skills, including, but not limited to visual and verbal presentation.
